I must admit that I am extremely far behind on my music reviews and essentially everything that I promised when I originally started this blog, for which I apologize, but I have a valid excuse: in between work and sleep I have been preparing for a job interview that I thought was out of my reach. Thankfully, the interview is this Friday, so I can spend most of my weekend reviewing all the music that I have wanted share with you over the past couple weeks, most important of which is the long awaited arrival of blond/blonde by the one and only Frank Ocean.
However, for now I bring you Smoke & Synth vol. II, which is another compilation of songs to which I have been listening on repeat over the past week or so.

If you know me personally, you know that I have a proclivity for British music. So it will come as no surprise that I found myself making my way from the suburbs to see HONNE make their Ohio debut last Tuesday night at The Basement to a profusely sweating crowd. HONNE, a Japanese word meaning ‘real intention,' is the British brainchild of producer James Hatcher and producer/singer Andrew Clutterbuck, whose effortless blend of R&B, synth, and percolating guitars constantly find themselves soundtracking my life. The East London duo are currently touring in promotion of their debut album, “Warm on a Cold Night,” which has been dubbed by The Guardian as “danceable, but not braindead,” with which I wholeheartedly agree. They bring with them JONES, also known as Cherie Jones-Mattis of London, as their opener.
Okay, I may actually be crazy to start a music blog, especially since I have little to no experience in the music industry, albeit as my college's rock music director (WMHC, what's up?!), but why not give it a shot?! So as a primer to my music tastes and what to expect from this venture, I have compiled a playlist of some of the artists to which I have been playing on repeat for the past few weeks. Hope you enjoy the playlist and if you have any suggestions for the style of this blog or just artists to which I should give a listen, please comment below. |
